PESTICIDES!!!!

Hi my name is Dante Neal and I work at MAP and I am here to tell u about a dangerous poisons some of you don't know about. In fact I am pretty sure that most of you have eaten some pretty nasty things and didn't even know the danger .This poison is in many of our homes our families eat it as well as ourselves every night. This poison is called.........PESTICIDES!!!

P
esticides
are substances or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling,or killing any bugs.
Pesticides intended purpose was to kill any bugs/insects that were eating a farmers crops. Pesticides are also toxic to humans and animals, yes any living thing. Its true that we take in small amounts of them when we eat food that is heavily sprayed but think about over time how that could all add up to a bunch of toxins in our bodies!! And now the use of them is creating new super bug. When you spray a bug with something that is made to kill it over and over again, some bugs build up a resistance to that spray over a period of time. Because of the reliance on pesticides scientists are constantly looking to find something stronger to kill the bugs, which over time they will build up a resistance to that spray too. Its an endless cycle of putting worse and worse chemical combinations on our food, which we then buy and stick in your mouths. yuck!! They spray this on our apples, pears, carrots, cucumbers, and every other fruit and veggie you can name. We looked at the Global Food Index of a national research center for policy and it calculated that upto 30,000 farmworkers die each year from pesticide exposure!! All this destruction and we haven't even started talking about pollution in our lakes, rivers, ground water, top soil. come on!!! As a young person I think we deserve a better system to make our food than this!!
Don't you think its time for a change? Are you now thinking to yourself about where are you going to get fresh fruit and veggies without pesticides from?Well ive got your the answer to your question.

The Massachusetts avenue project(m.a.p)has a fruit/veggie farm where we grow organic, local food for our community.
Some of our products are beans, mustard greens, herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, squash. We also use aquaponics to grow fish!!! Tilapia, Bass and Koi fish. We have chickens and red wiggler worms-they really help us process our compost fast! Our youth enterprise manufactures 3 value added products that are all natural, pesticide free and locally sourced, the Super Duper Salsa and the Amazing Chili Starter and now the Raspberry Apple Cider Balsamic Vinaigrette. And all of our products are made fresh with local produce and at their seasonal peak-means they are ripe and delicious! Say no to pesicides , but yes to local food an start living a healthier life. Support local youth and local food!!!
